Hands up who watched the US Presidential debate last night?
Yeah, me neither.
But I did take a look at the gold price (in GBP) this morning,
and you know what?
No matter what the pundits say,
the markets gave a resounding victory for Trump,
with gold climbing from a session low of £1011.19/oz,
up to £1018.65 by the end.
I’d like to see if that turn-around correlated with Trump’s near knockout blow of,
“you should be in jail.”
comment to Hillary?
why does gold going higher show a Trump win?
Because The Donald is perceived as anti-establishment,
and anti-establishment President’s are seen as anti-whatever there is currently in place with respect to free trade agreements etc.
Whether that’s fact or fiction is irrelevant.
What matters is that the people who move the markets with various multi-billion dollar funds, see Trump as a loose cannon.
Which of course he is.
But what about Hillary?
You can see from the chart that she started strong and in the first 40 minutes the price of gold took a mini-tumble.
It wasn’t until after then that Trump appears to have given Hillary a good battering,
and looks like he could have ended the debate serving her up in a basket along with a side of fries if he wanted.
Is it fair that the markets are moving against Trump?
Isn’t Hillary just going to give the American people more of the same old crap they’ve already had?
In a word,
Certainly more pandering to bankers and corporates.
And that’s why the markets like her – bankers and corporates are the ones moving the markets after all.
So, is she really the best candidate for the job?
Damn it, of course not!
I pity the American electorate in the run-up to this election.
they managed to engineer themselves a choice between the Devil and the Devil’s asshole (I won’t say which I think is which).
Trump would certainly have been destroyed a loong time ago had the Democrats pitched a more credible candidate.
What is definite, is that if Trump gets in, gold will most likely soar.
And, after all the speculation about gold flying given a Trump victory,
this small test proves it for me.
At least until a President Trump (scared?) makes his policies clear(er).
And then maybe even more so, if they are seen as anti free trade.
Of course, the opposite is true if Hillary get’s in,
no doubt it’ll be business as usual.
Beat up on the Russian’s about Syria, in the proxy war of Iran vs Saudi Arabia.
Keep her Wall St buddies happy.
for a while
no matter which candidate gets in,
it doesn’t look great for the US people,
nor the rest of the world …
